CLT’s I-85 Lanes to Shut Down for ‘Monumental’ Bridge Work

Drivers on Interstate 85 in Charlotte should expect lane closures next week as crews begin work on a $50.7 million bridge project that city officials describe as a “monument entrance into Charlotte.”
According to The Charlotte Observer, architectural renderings show the city’s name in bold capital letters displayed on both sides of the bridge, visible to northbound and southbound traffic. Each end of the bridge will also feature the Queen Charlotte crown emblem.
Designed to serve as both a landmark and a functional crossing, the bridge will link multiple areas and accommodate vehicles, public transit, cyclists, and pedestrians.
