15 Hospitalized After Lightning Strike on Lake Murray

Nearly 20 people were evaluated after a lightning strike hit the water near the beachside of the Lake Murray dam around 5 p.m., according to Lexington County officials. First responders assessed 20 individuals—8 adults and 12 children—and transported 12 to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. According to WCNC, Prisma Health says five patients, including two children, were taken to Parkridge; one has been discharged, and others are still being evaluated. Ten additional patients—eight children and two adults—were sent to Prisma Health and Prisma Health Children’s Hospital. Three children have been admitted. Officials expect the beach to reopen Wednesday after a safety review.
