Charlotte city officials on Monday approved a pilot program to regulate street vending in the NoDa neighborhood. The new initiative introduces permitting requirements and identification rules aimed at addressing concerns over unregulated vendors operating in the area.

Under the program, vendors will be required to obtain annual permits, with the fee increasing from $165 to $350, according to WCNC. While the updated rules remove criminal penalties, those who violate regulations could face civil fines of up to $500.

City leaders say the plan is designed to create a more organized and accountable environment for vendors, while also responding to feedback from residents and business owners. The pilot program will serve as a test case before broader policy decisions are considered.
