CLT City Council Drops Tesla from Approved EV Vendor List

The Charlotte City Council voted 6-3 on Monday to remove Tesla from its list of approved electric vehicle vendors, citing concerns over the company’s “instability.” Despite the decision, the city will move forward with plans to purchase and replace 45 electric vehicles in its fleet. According to WCNC, council member LaWana Mayfield, who has pushed for Tesla’s removal since a June 9 meeting, rejected claims from Councilman Ed Driggs that her stance was politically motivated. The discussion grew tense before the final vote. Charlotte currently has 15 Teslas in its fleet, but will no longer buy new vehicles from the automaker.
