A suspect was shot and killed by police early Saturday after allegedly shooting a Monroe officer during a pursuit, authorities said.

The incident began just before 3 a.m., when the officer was wounded while chasing the suspect, according to the Monroe Police Department. A Special Response Team launched a search near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Goldmine Road.

By around 4:45 a.m., officers located and fatally shot the suspect, according to WCCB.

The injured officer is reported to be in stable condition. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
