South Charlotte Middle School was evacuated and dismissed early Friday after a smoky odor was reported in the building. A parent said their daughter’s class was evacuated around 11 a.m., and they were unable to re-enter. Although administrators attempted to let students back inside to use the bathroom, all lights were out. According to WCNC, the district confirmed the evacuation was due to the smell, and firefighters advised that students and staff should not re-enter until the source was investigated. CMS officials referred further questions to Charlotte Fire.
