The award-winning Sounds of Blackness will join the 50th Anniversary celebration at the Jazzy Gantt Golden Gala on Saturday, December 7th at the Charlotte Convention Center. The Black-tie event features a mix & mingle in the reception lounge, a jazz lounge, a formal dining experience and a program that features the Sounds of Blackness at 7 PM.
The Gala celebrates the Gantt Golden Year in celebration of their 50th anniversary. The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts & Culture, named in honor of Harvey Gantt, the first Black Mayor of Charlotte, describes the Gala as the “culmination of their yearlong celebration of Black joy, genius, and excellence – honoring the Gantt’s founding in 1974. The founders will be honored with the Spirit of the Center award for “Community” and 2024 Spirit of the Center award winners will be recognized as well.
The Grammy, Stellar and NAACP award winning Sounds of Blackness will provide a production that includes their uplifting music as well as historical moments that highlight the Gantt’s 50-year journey. Gary Hines, music director and producer for the Sounds, says that you will experience more than a concert. “It’s a production of epic proportions that will highlight each decade”, he says.
You can support the Gant and their vision for the next fifty years “to bring renowned African diaspora giants – artists, culture keepers, scholars, and thinkers – to Charlotte; to increase access, and to champion and present our extraordinary Black Carolina creatives to the world.” ganttcenter.org
