The Bible is full of stories of how God gives second chances.  There is the story of Jonah who disobeyed God’s command to go to Nineveh to proclaim God’s message.

Jonah disobeyed God and as a result was eaten by a whale. While in the belly of the whale Jonah cried out to God, promising to obey Him and thanking Him for the blessings previously bestowed. In return, God gave Jonah a second chance.

R&B crooner El Debarge is calling on us to be like Christ.

Debarge made a comeback this year during the BET Awards and is currently preparing for the release of a new project, titled “Second Chance.” As a part of the promotion for the album, Debarge is talking about his past, his spirituality and how he prayed to God for His second chance.

Says Debarge:

I was praying God please get me off this. Please find a way…do something; I don’t wanna be like this.

What we can learn from Jonah and Debarge is to follow God’s will for our lives.

Jonah had run away from God, but was given a second chance to participate in God’s work. You may feel as though you are disqualified from serving God because of past mistakes. Serving God is not an earned position. No one qualifies for God’s service.  When you know God wants you to do something, don’t run.  God may not stop you as he did Jonah.
