President Donald Trump vowed to remove the line of demarcation between church and state. Speaking this morning at the National Prayer Breakfast the president said, “Our republic was formed on the basis that freedom is not a gift from government but that freedom is a gift from God. Among those freedoms is the right to worship according to our own beliefs. That is why I will get rid of and totally destroy the Johnson Amendment and let our representatives of faith speak freely and without fear of retribution. Freedom of religion is a sacred right but it’s also a right under threat all around us and the world is under serious, serious threat in so many different ways.” The Johnson Amendment prevents churches from funding political parties and is the basic separation that precludes the two from co-mingling.

The prayer breakfast has been an anuual event of every presidency since the Dwight Eisenhower administration.
