I was at the mall the other day and realized that the gorgeous tree that is usually up during the holiday is already there.  Just days after Halloween!  Not yet Thanksgiving. Retail begins it’s “celebration” of Christmas earlier and earlier every year.

Well, Seattle-based Nordstrom has decided to go against the grain and not decorate it’s stores for Christmas until after Thanksgiving.

The retailer has maintained this practice for years, indicating why on this sign that was posted on one of their stores a few years ago:

“at Nordstrom…

We won’t be decking our halls

until Friday, November 27.

Why? Well, we just like the idea

of celebrating one holiday at a time.

From our family to yours,

Happy Thanksgiving.

We will be closed Thanksgiving Day.

On Friday, our doors will open to welcome the new season.”
