Luke 14:28-29 KJV

For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

Nothing in life is free. Nothing. Success is no exception. Since we know that nothing is free it would be wise to make appropriate calculations about cost before entering into our endeavors.

I would strongly caution against you going into a restaurant, sitting down and having a full meal before determining how much the meal will cost. If you can’t pay, it’s likely that you will have a new occupation as a dishwasher. Not the way you want to end a nice night out on the town—Although your co-patrons will likely get a nice chuckle from your experience.

You will always have detractors waiting to mock your failures. The question is, “why do we fail?” Our failures often occur due to lack of preparation before entering into an endeavor. We didn’t do our homework.

What kind of life do you intend to build? Do you desire to build a strong spiritual life? Do you intend to build a strong family? Do you intend to build a strong and competitive business? Would you like to build wealth?

Having a desire to build is important but should be secondary to the work required before building begins. It takes a strong foundation for any tower or structure to withstand the storms of life and stand through adversity.

Have you counted the cost required to be successful in this life? It may cost you time. Have you considered that? It may cost you friends. Have you considered that? It may cost you sleep. Actually, it may cost you everything!

Truthfully, many fail because they just aren’t willing to pay the price. Success comes at a cost. Have you taken the time count that cost and are you willing to pay the price?
