When Robert D. Lasco was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2013, it was a complete surprise to he and his family. The back pain he had wrestled with prior to the diagnosis masked a type of Cancer that is still unfamiliar to so many people in the United States. After nearly two years of treatment and remission, the culprit that lurked in the marrow of his bones was exposed. Now Lasco is committed to educating people about this cunning Cancer which is effecting thousands of people – particularly African-Americans. ‘COMMUNITY VOICES’ host, Ron Holland, talked with Robert Lasco, Dr. Saad Z. Usmani, Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and UNC-Chapel Hill Director of Plasma Cell disorders at Carolinas Healthcare Sysem and Comedian Cedric “Nuff Ced” Brown about the upcoming, ‘Laugh for Life’ fundraiser event to raise awareness of Multiple Myeloma.
