The Charlotte Observer is reporting that Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton was injured in a car accident on Church Street about 12:30 p.m. The Observer has photos of Newton on a stretcher while paramedics work on him. The Panthers released a statement saying “Cam Newton is in fair condition and undergoing tests at Carolinas Medical Center and will remain there overnight for observation.”
In a statement this afternoon, the Panthers said Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back, but no further internal injuries.
