Carolina Panther quarterback stood in middle of a group of Charlotte middle schoolers asking which school would win School Pride Day at Memorial Stadium. The shouts rang out: Thomasboro, MLK…

“Take the XBox away….just get outside and play and that’s what this is about,” Newtown said.

More than 720 students and administrators from 40 Charlotte-Mecklenburg middle schools participated in a tug-o-war, potato sack races, Hula Hooping contests and more at Ca Newton Foundation School Pride Day. The students rotated between 10 activity stations. School Pride Day is an extension of the Cam Newton Foundation’s School Pride program.

“These kids really don’t understand how much it means for me to come and see the turnout,” said Newton during an interview. “They’re in awe when they see me, but I’m in awe when I see those guys, especially when they’re enthused about being out here, very energetic, showing their school pride.”
