A Clarksville man said that he quit his job last week in order to save his soul.

Walter Slonopas, 52, resigned as a maintenance worker at Contech Casting LLC in Clarksville after his W-2 tax form was stamped with the number 666. Slonopas said that after getting the W-2, he could either go to work or go to hell, “If you accept that number, you sell your soul to the devil,” he said.

The company says the number simply refers to the order in which the forms were mailed out.

Strangely this is the third time the number has caused him trouble at work.

On his first day at work in April 2011, he was assigned 666 as a number to clock in. He was supposed to have received 668. Then in July 2011, the company changed time clock systems, and once again Slonopas was assigned 666. He quit, the company changed it and he returned to work a few days later.  Not this time though. Slonopas, says he’s not coming back. He says it would send the message that he values money more than his faith.

He does, however, want Contech to give him a new W-2 without 666 0n so he can file his taxes.

The firm planned to mail out a new W-2, in a plain envelope, this week. The company also wants to rehire him.
