I’m sure you’ve been out and about before, perhaps even this week, and seen this couple: they’re obviously in love because they’re all over each other. They’re probably kissing or touching or hugging or holding hands or, the most hilarious to me, they’re walking with the hands in each other’s back pocket. You see these couples and yeah, it’s great that they’re in love and enjoying one another’s company, but you can’t help but think to yourself, “Oh, get a room!”

Now, there’s nothing wrong with a little PDA (public display of affection) every now and then. After all, you do enjoy spending time around each other, and what better way to show it than with some gentle affection? That’s fine, but when is enough enough? How much is too much when it comes to PDA? I say that based on the assumption that there is such a thing as too much because, well, legally, there is — there’s a reason we have laws for indecent exposure and lewd and lascivious acts.

I know certain people have nearly no tolerance for it; they won’t even kiss in public. I guess that works for them. Some people draw the line at french kissing. Other don’t seem to have any line drawn. Personally, I’m ok with a little hand holding, some hugging and putting your arm around that special someone when it’s appropriate (you don’t need to be boo-ed up like that when you’re both trying to each dinner; afterward would be more appropriate). I guess what I don’t like to see (or do) in public is too much kissing. A peck or two is fine, but I don’t think I need to see any tongue or the inside of either of your mouths. And honestly, I’d prefer not to see you nibble on each other’s necks either. I know it’s fun and it turns you on, but please, just restrain yourself a little bit, ok? There are possibly small children in the vicinity.

When you see a couple’s interaction in public it makes you wonder what their private interaction is like, doesn’t it? So if you’re sitting at Starbucks with your tongue down your boyfriend’s throat, I’m pretty much going to assume that y’all are sleeping together. Why? Well, if you’d do that in public, why wouldn’t you take it that much further in private?

Then, I’ll turn the questions to those of you who are Christians, who should be sexually abstinent: What are you doing in public? How far have you taken your PDA? Because I’d say that the same rule applies to you. If I see you in church on Sunday morning, then run into you and the boo having coffee Monday night, and you’re over there all in each other’s mouths, you know what I’m thinking right? Yep… I thinking you’re having sex. Now, of course, that may or may not be true — that’s not really important — but what is important is the understanding that a) I’m not the only one who thinks like this, and b) as a Christian, what kind of example are you setting, not only for the unbelievers, but your fellow Christians that may be watching?

So what do you think about PDA? How much is too much? How far do you, personally, choose to go with your significant other when you’re in public?
