The Ad Council has launched a new radio campaign to help women understand lupus and identify its symptoms.

The Ad Council is arming women with knowledge about the condition and celebrated World Lupus Day on May 10. About 90 percent of those diagnosed with the chronic autoimmune disease, which causes one’s immune system to attack the body’s healthy cells, are women. Minority women are three times more likely to be affected by the disease than White women.

The campaign aims to to help minority women recognize the signs and symptoms of lupus, which are listed on the campaign’s Web site. If you realize you exhibit some of the symptoms, go to a doctor for early diagnosis. Catching the disease early is a potentially life-saving measure for at-risk women between the ages of 18 and 44.
