RALEIGH The state Department of Revenue says it is catching up on issuing income tax refunds, and if you file by Thursday’s deadline, you should have your money by the middle of next month.

Earlier this year, the department announced it would have to delay refunds because the state’s cash flow was like most of ours during the recession – slow.

At the time, Revenue Secretary Ken Lay said the move was necessary to ensure the state had enough cash on hand to pay its bills.

But now, the department is issuing refunds weekly.

“We are trying to get refunds out as quickly as possible,” said spokeswoman Beth Stevenson. “If you are due a refund, you will receive it.”
