In less than a week, we will celebrate the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The holiday wasn’t supposed to be a three-day weekend for us to party on Sunday night and shop on Monday. It’s supposed to be a day to reflect on the man and the movement that gave African Americans a chance to take advantage of America’s greatness. Some of us are so complacent in our lives we’ve forgotten the sacrifices of Dr. King and the Civil Rights soldiers. We’re facing some challenging times as a country and a community. Dr. King’s birthday gives a us a chance to remember how strong we can be when we unite as a community and a country to make everyone’s lives better.
