A Pleasant Aroma

Ephesians 5:2

Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. (New Living Translation)

Think about how the fragrance of lavender makes you feel. Or, how the fragrance of someone you are attracted to makes you feel. Question…What kind of aroma does God smell from you? When Christ is in you and you are walking in obedience, you release a sweet aroma to God. 2 Corinthians 2: 15 says, “For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ which exhales unto God…”

Now, try to place yourself in God’s shoes and imagine what He is forced to smell when we are exercising in our will and not His. When we choose to be disobedient or live a life that is opposite His word & His desire. There is no sweetness in disobedience. There is no calming aroma in walking around without Christ in our hearts. And, when that happens, we are sending the most unbearable aroma up to God. And, He is not pleased.

We could argue that we are operating in God’s will MOST of the time. At least, I will admit to that. However, let me ask you, have you ever sat or stood next to someone who repulsed you because of their “aroma”? They obviously tried to camouflage their natural body odor by layering on perfume or cologne and it didn’t mix well. How did that smell make you feel or cause you to even think about that person?

Well, ask yourself, what are you doing in your life that could be sending an unpleasant scent (i.e. message) to God? Do you have an area or two that needs to be readjusted in order to stop putting out a mixed aroma? Or, can you say that you are living a life that is totally pleasing and acceptable unto God?

I think we all need to take a whiff (self-check) and see what kind of aroma we are putting out today….one that is pleasant to God’s nostrils or one that has Him holding His nose.

WHO IS MONICA WOOD AKA MOWOOD?

Monica Wood is one who faith walks even when she doesn’t want to. Through trial and error I have made some mistakes – not many are visible – but all have left a reminder of their existence. It is through the scars that I have learned what kind of faith I have and what kind of God I serve. And, for close to 4 years now I have been led to share some of my scars, during a season of “transparency”, in the form of daily or weekly or even monthly devotionals.

Over the years, I have received unsolicited feedback with surprising testimonials that were sparked by my transparent messages. All remarks and reactions have been a blessing and encouragement. However, I am led to write because I like to write out where I am and how God is working in it. Now my writings have a title, “MoMoments”. I pray this blessing will be a blessing.
