With so much negative news about Muslims on both the national and international scene, a local mosque – MASJID ASH-SHAHEED – with assistance from Johnson C. Smith University, presents MORAL SUMMIT WEEKEND, a weekend to salute those who represent the best in the areas of Religion, Business, Politics, Community Service, and Education. The theme for the weekend is “Our Common Interest for Human Excellence through Education and Spiritual Development.”
6:00 p.m. tonight – at the Grimes Lounge on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University, there will be a Torchbearers of Excellence Banquet, honoring community leaders, including Mayor Anthony Foxx, Dr. Maria Hanlin of Mecklenburg Ministries, Keith Burnam of KIPP Academy, Aijaz Khan of Radius Construction, and Wells Fargo Bank. Speakers include Imam Wazir Ali and NBA Hall of Famer James Worthy. Banquet tickets are $40 each.
Sunday –11:00 – 4:00 Free Public Address by Imam Wazir Ali, followed by an Interfaith Panel Discussion at Masjid Ash-Shaheed.
Registration fee is $30 and includes Saturday Workshops and Sunday Brunch. Fish/Chicken Fry dinners are $10. Sunday Brunch and Presentation tickets are $7 if not registered for the Weekend. Vending spaces are available for $30.
