CHARLOTTE, N.C.– Anthony Hamilton is one of the most world-renowned R&B music artist who calls Charlotte home, and now city leaders want to recognize him for positively impacting the community.  The Grammy-award winning singer, songwriter and producer will receive the Order of the Hornet—Mecklenburg County’s highest award— on Tuesday, April 2 at 6 p.m. during the Board of County Commissioners public meeting at the Government Center.

The Order of the Hornet was established in 1972 and is bestowed by the board “on persons who have displayed valor or high order of service uniquely and specifically to the citizens of Mecklenburg County”.  Hamilton most recently received the Masked Honoree Award during the 2019 Mayor’s Ball benefiting the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). He is also an ambassador for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as well as a spokesman for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). The singer has also volunteered and given monetary donations to numerous local non-profits including the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, the Salvation Army Center of Hope, Second Harvest Food Bank and A Child’s Place just to name a few.

With a focus on health, hunger, homelessness and education, Hamilton vows to never forget where he came from.  “It’s important to reach back and give someone else a helping hand,” says Hamilton. “I was born and raised in this great city and if I can step in to help provide a better way of life for others, we will all succeed.”
