Attorney General Jeff Sessions

President Trump has fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions.  Yesterday’s event wasn’t a surprise, as the president has been clear about his disdain for Sessions, but no one expected it to come the day after the midterm elections. Sessions resignation letter specified to the President that it was,  “at your request”.  He was asked by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, and asked to leave immediately.  Sessions had been one of Trump’s first and most loyal supporters, but the President disagreed with his decision to recuse himself from the Russia investigation.

Sessions’ chief of staff, Matthew Whitaker, will now take over as acting attorney general.  Whitaker has been vocal in standing against the Russia investigation, which he will now oversee. Democrats already want him to recuse himself.
