Oregon lawmaker Janelle Bynum, a state representative who is running for re-election this fall, had the police called on her while getting out and talking to voters.  A woman called to say she thought she was ‘casing the neighborhood.’   When a county sheriff’s deputy showed up, he asked if she was selling something. She, in turn, introduced herself as a state legislator and told him she was canvassing.

Bynum said the deputy told her a woman made the 911 call. She said she asked the deputy to call the woman so she could speak to her. The woman was apologetic and said she called 911 for the safety of her neighborhood.

Bynum said that Deputy Campbell who responded, was courteous and professional.  She estimates knocking on more than 70,000 doors over her years campaigning  and said Tuesday was the first time someone reported her to police.
