The National Football League team owners announced today that they have adopted a policy for the upcoming season for protocol during the national anthem. The new rules require players to stand during playing of the anthem, if they are on the field, though players and personnel do have the option of remaining in the locker room if they choose.  If they kneel on the field during the song’s performance their team will be fined by the league. The teams in turn will also be allowed to develop their own rules for punishing individual players or personnel for kneeling.
