One person died yesterday after a Southwest Airlines plane engine exploded, sending shrapnel through the airplanes window. The victim has been identified as Jennifer Riordan, a bank executive and mother of two from Albuquerque. The flight was en route from New York City to Dallas when the engine failed midair, forcing it to make an emergency landing in Philadelphia. Passengers reported that after the explosion, Riordan was “sucked out” of a broken window. Two passengers were able to pull her back in and then others performed CPR. The incident is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
