There are a bevy of ailments disproportionately impacting the African-American community. Not only is Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure and Obesity taking the black community’s health, the costs of treatment continues to strain budgets. The Village Heart Beat, an organization that promotes better heart awareness and a host of diseases, is working diligently to address these health issues.  The organization is working in conjunction with the Office of Community Engagement of Mecklenburg County Public Health Department, is sponsoring an annual 5K Run/Walk to raise awareness.  ‘COMMUNITY VOICES’ host, Ron Holland delved into these issues with Village Heart Beat Representatives, Regina Baker, Arthur Johns and Jamar Davis.
