The United States Olympic team made its entrance at the Opening Ceremonies for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang early Friday morning.  The team, looked amazing as they entered the arena, but the ceremony was not without internal controversy.  Olympic speedskater Shani Davis was skipped the ceremony, after not being chosen for the honor of flag bearer.   He and luger Erin Hamlin were tied in the initial vote and Hamlin was eventually chosen after a coin toss. Davis tweeted that  “@TeamUSA dishonorably tossed a coin to decide its 2018 flag bearer. No problem. I can wait until 2022,” complete with hashtag #BlackHistoryMonth2018. Davis, is the first black athlete to win an individual gold medal at a Winter Olympics.  There is no report that the coin was executed unfairly, just the suggestion that it was not the right way to determine who would be carrying the flag. Davis reportedly was not planning to attend the ceremony, but was considering it, if he was chosen as flag bearer.
