The Trump administration has announced it will end the Temporary Protected Status designation for Haitian immigrants by July 2019. More than 50,000 Haitians live and work in the US after the country’s devastating earthquake in 2010 killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced over one million. The Trump administration has assessed that Haiti is now in a position to accommodate those individuals and is giving Haitians until next summer to move back home or get “lawful immigration status.”
