God’s Comfort

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, NIV

Everyone needs to be comforted every once in a while. To be comforted is to experience relief from affliction and God promised in His Word that He would be our comfort. As the Father of compassion, God knows our needs and as the God of all comfort, He reaches into our affliction to cover us in His embrace in the midst of our troubles. Yet, the scripture tells us that it is not enough for us to be comforted and remain there. God comforts us in troubles so that we can console others with what He has given us. As a community of believers, there should be no one in our midst who feels as if their comfort is nowhere in sight. If God has delivered you from depression, then it is your duty to console and comfort those who struggle in similar ways. If God healed you from a broken heart, it is your call to usher that same healing into the lives of those who you know are in need of such healing. If God has comforted you in any way, don’t hoard the peace of His presence, but share it with others who are in need. With comfort, God gives us a precious gift through the Holy Spirit that is meant to be shared with all.

Lord, we thank you for comforting and consoling us during our trials and tribulations. We thank you for providing us with the peace that allowed us to endure those times, always knowing that you were in control of the situation. We now ask that you strengthen our courage in order to support others through their own trials and tribulations, knowing that in spite of how their situation appears, your perfect will is being done in order to mold them for greater use in the Kingdom of God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
