50% Of African-American Youth Report Pressure To Have Sex

A new survey of African-American youth has found that almost half report considerable pressure to have sex. The results, which were derived from the answers of 1,500 youth ages 13-21, will be featured in the October issue of ESSENCE magazine, out on newsstands today.

“I was elated that Essence, a secular Black magazine, choose to even run the story along with the data,” said the founder of BlackGenocide.org

Rev. Clenard Childress Jr. “The multiple images and lyrics and instruction [young African-Americans’] minds are exposed to can only result in ill advised sexual behavior.”

New Book Tells Black Women:“Don’t Marry Down. Marry Out.”

“The result of the pressure has resulted in Black young women getting abortions disproportionately, which accounts for the data stating (a plummeting birth rate),” he told LifeSiteNews.

Released by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, the survey found that 47% of respondents, including 21% of those 13-15, said they had been pressured to go further sexually than they wanted to. Among African-American males, 54% said they felt pressured by their friends to have sex.

Respondents said that they believe that the TV shows and movies they watch paint a negative picture of African-American youth. For example, 72% believe that the media sends the message that African-American females’ most important quality is their sex appeal, and 64% believe that the media sends the message that it is okay for African-American males to cheat in relationships.

Of course there, is a school of though that says that when the child is tired he or she will go to bed. That is far from the truth. You can’t depend on kids, then, to let you know when they’re tired. Instead, it’s up to parents to know how much sleep their kids need.

3 Stress-Less Tips For Working Moms

Here are some averages, which include daytime and nighttime sleep:

0-1 year: 13-16 hours
2-4 years: 11-13.5 hours
5-9 years: 10-11 hours
10-14 years: 9-10 hours
15-18 years: 8-9 hours

Studies have shown that with consistent sleep and wake times, the body will eventually start to feel sleepy at the same time every night. This is good news for parents. Build a consistent bedtime into your schedule, and ease kids into it with a regular routine that might include some or all of the following:

Lowering the lights and turning off all electronics 30-60 minutes before bed.

A light snack that includes both protein and carbs. I would give grapes.
A warm because it gives a sense of comfort.
Brushing teeth and setting hair.

An online petition to have Bert and Ernie to tie the knot on Sesame Street has sparked discussion on when children should be taught about sexual orientation.

For the uninitiated, Bert and Ernie are two of the more recognizable puppets who appear on the PBS children’s program “Sesame Street.” The pair has been a staple on the program since it first aired in 1969.

Change.org is a website that describes itself as “an online activism platform for social change that raises awareness about important causes and connects people to opportunities for powerful action.” It is utilized primarily, though not exclusively, by liberal causes. There are a variety of problems with Lair’s petition, which has more than 7,500 signatures.

First of all, it assumes Bert and Ernie were created and/or intended to project or promote homosexuality, an assumption Sesame Street strongly denies. In a statement on its Facebook site, Sesame Street insisted its puppets are not intended to have a sexual orientation.

“Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves. Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets do), they remain puppets, and do not have sexual orientation,” the Sesame Street statement read. The assumptions we make, the conclusions to which we jump, reveal much about our perspective on life, or if you will, the hammers we haul around.

People who sit around and contemplate the sexuality of puppets have way too much time on their hands.

1. Take inventory. We usually do ourselves more financial harm than good by running out and buying every school supply we can find. If you found them on sale, wonderful. But wouldn’t it be more wonderful to not waste money, no matter how small or insignificant the amount on stuff your kids don’t even need? Before you go anywhere, take inventory of what you already have and of what you may actually need. Many households already have the paper and pens that kids need to start the school year. So check what’s lying around on shelves and in drawers before buying piles more.

In addition, check your kids’ closets to figure out what they can still wear and use and what actually does needs to be replaced. In most regions, the weather is still extremely warm until late September. Some summer clothing can be worn with no problem the first several weeks of school. Remember, this isn’t about all the stuff the kids want; it’s about what they need and what you can afford!

2. Make a budget. This will help you stay focused on the back to school shopping list you created after taking stock of what you already own. As you know, most retailers try to jump in on the “Back to School” festivities whether they really cater to students or not. Don’t get side-tracked by gimmicks. Use your inventory list to design a budget and stick to that budget at all costs. If you end up saving even more than you anticipated, then great, you have money left over to go towards saving or maybe even paying off your own student loan debt!
