“Find your path. Believe in your path. Live your path.” These three statements carry the weight of the future. They are also accompanied by the circumstances that shape us along the way. What is your path, the road where your dreams and your talents meet? Do you believe in it? Are you living it? The beautiful thing about life is that it is packed with hand-crafted opportunities for us to seize so that finding our path is second nature.

I recently posted my graduating photo on Facebook in remembrance of where I’d come from. I’d certainly found my path, and believed in it, but remembered times when I couldn’t shake the habit of “waiting” for fear to give me permission to take the stage that already had my name on it.

I was later shaken out of the fear formation by hearing Common, during his recent talk at the Knight Theater, reference the infamous Marianne Williamson quote: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.”

Who was I to question the greatness implanted by God himself? Who was I to not maximize it? As much as I thought I was taking full advantage, I still had work to do. There was still room for me to see more, believe more, and dare myself more. Common’s lecture reminded me that I was already equipped for greatness upon entry into the world, and that my life was the proof.

It is our duty to see the opportunities that cultivate greatness, inhale them, caress them and let them full us up with joy. That is the creator’s intention in awakening us every morning. We are given permission through the air that flows through us. Your path is set. Life is waiting. Greatness is waiting to meet you. That truth alone is a path worth traveling. What are you waiting for?
