Matte About You: How to wear Matte Lipstick

I’m all about a statement lip and matte lips are my favorite! But… there’s definitely a right and a wrong way to get your matte on.

Matte lipsticks have a dry finish so if you put them on top of dry lips, that’s a recipe for disaster. The first thing you need to do before pulling out your favorite matte lip is exfoliate! Remove all of the dead skin because if you don’t, the texture will show through the lip color (that means dry, peeling skin… the opposite of cute)

Grab some Vaseline and kitchen sugar and scrub your lips down using your finger or toothbrush. If you don’t want to go the DIY route, here are some fabulous pre-made options here.

After you exfoliate, rub some Chap Stick or Vaseline on your lips, and then blot it off with a tissue. That way you’ll add a little moisture to the lip but still keep the lipstick matte.

Line your lips with a lip liner that matches the lipstick perfectly. That way, you’ll have a professional finish with nice, sharp edges. If you want more of an ombre look, choose a lip liner a shade or so deeper than the lip color.

Pop on your lipstick and GO!

How do you apply your matte lippies? Chime in below.

A Faux Glow: How to apply bronzer

We’re all after the perfect summer glow. Whether you want to serve glowy skin a la J-Lo or give a San Tropez tan, the right bronzer will definitely get the job done!

Bronzer is great for adding a beautiful glow to the skin. Some bronzers have shimmer and some have more of a matte finish. The golden flecks in shimmering bronzer give skin a glow and the rich brown shades add color.

Are you planning to contour with your bronzer (add shadow/shape the face)? Go for a bronzer with a more matte finish.

Dust the bronzer along the hollows of the face. Suck in your cheeks, dust bronzer along your hairline and along the sides of the nose if you’d like to add a little shape there.

Adding a glow? Pick up a bronzer with golden flecks and dust it along the high points of the face. Shimmering bronzer looks beautiful along the highest points of the cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose and even layered on top of your blush.

How do you bronze?
