(SPRING, TX) — Seven people were shot Wednesday night in a family massacre in Spring. Six of them, including four children, are dead. And now, we’re learning more about the suspected killer.

According to deputies, 33-year-old Ronald Lee Haskell is related to the people he allegedly shot. They were his estranged wife’s family.

“I’ve not personally in 40 years seen a tragedy in one family that’s this horrific,” Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Ron Hickman said.

The Latest News Headlines, Traffic and Weather:

Deputies said 39-year-old Steven Stay, 33-year-old Katie Stay, and their children – a 13-year-old boy, 9-year-old girl, 7-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy – all died.

Only a 15-year-old girl survived, and she’s now being called a hero.

Haskell went to the family’s home in the 700 block of Leaflet Lane in the Enchanted Oaks neighborhood. According to documents read in court Thursday morning, Haskell was dressed as a FedEx worker when he knocked on the door and the 15-year-old girl answered.

He reportedly asked where her parents were, and he left when she said they weren’t home. But he allegedly returned a short time later, knocking on the door again and forcing his way inside.

The 15-year-old girl was tied up. Court documents state he tied up the rest of the family as soon as they returned home.

All seven victims were laid face-down on the floor, according to court documents. When they refused to tell Haskell where his estranged wife was, he reportedly shot them all in the head “execution-style.”

We’re told the bullet that struck the teen girl only fractured her skull, so she said she played dead until Haskell left.

The girl, who was still in critical condition Thursday after undergoing surgery, was able to call 911 tell deputies where Haskell was going next — a home on Ella at Anvil where more relatives lived.

Deputies arrived before he did.

Haskell led the deputies on a chase that ended a few miles away at the end of a cul-de-sac.

After a SWAT standoff lasting more than three hours, Haskell surrendered peacefully.

He was not in court Thursday morning. He is charged with one count of “capital murder (multi)“and is being held without bond.
