It’s really official now: The right-wing conspiracy wing of the Republican Party is not only hellbent on seeing President Barack Obama fail, they also want him to be a national spectacle.

Since the Birthers and extremist right-wing Republicans cannot beat Obama on real issues, they have to make up fake ones. And they hope these trumped-up lies will resonate with enough like-minded nuts who will go to the polls and vote on pure ignorance. But not all Birthers are perceived as hallow-brained oxygen-breathers. The last nationally recognized Birther was real estate magnet Donald Trump, a man who plays presidential candidate as well as Kim Kardashian plays a housewife.

Now, the No. 1 ringleader in this round of Obama-was-born-in-Indonesia wackpack is Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio out of Arizona. Yep, good ol’ cactus-lawn Arizona.

Arpaio has gained national recognition for his aggressive border patrol tactics that many critics deem as racial profiling against Latinos. But it seems that the country’s best-known sheriff has shifted his attention from discriminating against Latinos to an even bigger attention-getter: Discrediting the first Black President of The United States. Why a local Arizona Sheriff would renew the absurdity of verifying the President’s birth is beyond conceivable reason.

Then again, there is nothing reasonable about Arpaio or any of his Birth-mungering disciples.

But here is the thing: The madness behind Arpaio’s attempt is not merely his “investigation” into Obama’s birth, it is Arpaio’s unflappable thoroughness. On Thursday, he released the preliminary results of Obama’s long-form birth certificate, where his volunteer — part of his “cold case posse”– claimed the certificate provided by the White House is “computer-generated forgery.” His “lead investigator” even went so far as to present a well-critiqued analysis of the certificate, highlighting intricate patterns on the document that suggest professional forgery.

Arpaio balked at any suggestions that his efforts to discredit the 44th President are politically or personally motivated:

“I’m not going after Obama,” said Arpaio, who has criticized the president’s administration for cutting off his federal immigration powers and conducting a civil rights investigation of his office. “I’m just doing my job.”

But according to the U.S. Justice Department, he isn’t doing his job at all.

In fact, the department’s Civil Rights Division wrote in a December report that Arpaio’s Office has “a pervasive culture of discriminatory bias against Latinos” that “reaches the highest levels of the agency,” according to a New York Times report.

So, with the feds breathing down his neck, the best way Arpaio feels he can keep his job (or seek a better one) is by trying to convince some of us that the president doesn’t legally deserve his.

Perhaps it is high time for the saner factions in the Republican Party to investigate Arpaio’s birth certificate and those of other Birthers because their fixation on Obama’s personhood is truly out of this world.
