Emboldened by a successful fund drive and a pledge from the Leon Levine Foundation, the Levine Museum of the New South unveiled its revamped Cotton Fields to Skyscrapers during a press conference on Tuesday. The public is invited to a free community celebration to celebrate the museum’s 20th anniversary and see the updated exhibit Sunday.

The museum raised more than $635,000 including a $150,000 matching grant from the Leon Levine Foundation since last fall. The museum raised nearly double its $350,000 goal. The money will be spent on programming and building reserves for the museum’s future. During the press conference, museum board chair Jamie McLawhorn announced that the Levine Foundation issued a challenge grant which begins June 30, 2012 and could total $3 million over a 10-year period.

The centerpiece of Sunday’s celebration is the main exhibit which boasts a new introductory video, more interactive displays and an updated exhibit that examines the latest changes in Charlotte from banking to the unanswerable question of what’s next.
