AT&T vice president and general manager Alison Hall announced that AT&T launching 4G in Charlotte, which will be one of the first AT&T's city with the high speed service. AT&T is also releasing 20 4G devices, of which 12 will be on the Android platform.

Hall said AT&T has invested $400 million in technology in the Charlotte area including 20 cell tower and improved voice quality.

"This is going to be one of the leading markets where we launch our 4g devices," Hall said.

“We can’t thank AT&T enough for the vision and the investments,” said Charlotte mayor Anthony Foxx.

Today’s announcement comes at a time when the city is preparing to host the Democratic National Convention in 2012. Hall said the AT&T was already investing in this area, but the DNC “gives us some extra motivation to hit it out of the park.”
